The Nassau Players Club was founded in 1993 and is proud to be based at the Black Course at the Bethpage State Park complex in Farmingdale, New York. This is the same site that hosted the 2002 U.S. Open, won by Tiger Woods and will also host the 2009 Open.
Ernest Bodo, Glen Broderick, Bill Geiger, Sean Mc Gowan, Paul Joyce and Mike O' Grady, who played together on weekends then, became the founding members of the group. As the group grew in size, they decided to formalize it; a meeting was called at McGowan's house where the Board of Directors was determined by a draw of cards. "The Winners" were Glenn Broderick, the President, Sean McGowan the Secretary and Ernie Bodo the Treasurer. Also in attendance, Bill Bartell, Bill Geiger, Paul Joyce and Mike O'Grady. It is worth mentioning that a special person was always available and hung out with the players: Bill Bartell's better half: Meg. To this day, Meg still attends some of the functions held by the Club.
The accolades for choosing the name of the Club go to Ernie Bodo, who chose the name based on the criteria that all the players were residents of Nassau County and when they played, they would always have a wager in the Nassau format, hence the name: The Nassau Players. As more people played and joined, it then became The Nassau Players Club.
The club is an association of golfers who like to increase their enjoyment of the game and the competition, which is such an important part of the game of golf. The club's membership is limited to skilled golfers who love the game, have the desire to play golf with other members on a frequent basis and can pay a modest membership fee. The dues entitle all members to maintain an official handicap through the United State Golf Association's Handicap & Information Network and to participate in all the Club's sponsored tournaments. It also enables the members to participate in all events sponsored by the LIGA, MGA and NYSGA. All members also receive an item of clothing with the Club's logo on it.
Several golf tournaments are organized each year for the benefit of the members and, all our members are encouraged to participate in all the Regional tournaments scheduled in our area. We have, without any doubt, the strongest membership of any organized club, with many well known local amateurs on our roster.
