The Nassau Players Club organizes several tournaments
each year for the benefit of its members.
Our traditional season opener is the Spring Scramble.
Played on the Black Course from the White tees,
the winning team was Ken Eichele and Jon
Silverberg, who scored a one-stroke victory over
four other teams with a solid three-under-par
score of 68. For the second straight year,
this event was won by one of our LIGA
officials. Coincidence?
The second event was the MGA Net Team Qualifier. Played on
the Red Course on Saturday, May 11, the winning team was Mike Finnegan
and Bill Ruth, who shot a 10-under-par 70, beating the team of Rob
Parker and Mark Frascogna by one shot.
Congratulations to Sean Hartman, 2001 Club Champion.
Congratulations also to the winners of the other flights:
Matt Corrigan, Steve Tepper, and Jon Silverberg. You can see
the match play grids for all four flights here. Qualifying
conditions are still available here. You can see
a photo of the Club Championship trophies here.
This year's Pinehurst,
rained out when first scheduled, was finally
played on Saturday, August 18, on the Green
course, with the Isnardi / Garcia team winning by
a single shot.. This is the event in which
we honor and remember our good friend Jack
Burger. Event conditions are still
available here.
The NPC Classic, in which we play one round on the Red and one
round on the Blue, was scheduled and might have even been played,
but we don't know for sure because we have no results.
The traditional final event of the season is
the Fall Scramble,
moved to the Blue course this year and won by the
team of Seam McGowan, Mike Bewnado, Ernie Bodo,
and Jack O'Flynn by a match of cards over the
team of Pete Gadigian, Ray Eklund, John Turrisi,
and Charlie Sullivan. Conditions may be
reviewed here.
